What is Children’s Mental Health Week?

Children’s mental health charity Place2Be has set up Children’s Mental Health Week 2020. Its aim is to highlight the importance of mental health within children and young people.

When does Children’s Mental Health Week take place?

This year, in 2020, Children’s Mental Health Week will take place from February 3rd to 9th February.

What is the theme of the week?

The theme this year is ‘Find your Brave’. With the aim for everyone to think about what makes them feel brave during the week this year. This year, children and young people should be encouraged to try something new, build confidence and begin to feel good about themselves.

Mental health problems affect about 1 in 10 children and young people. They include depression, anxiety and conduct disorder, and are often a direct response to what is happening in their lives.

Alarmingly, however, 70% of children and young people who experience a mental health problem have not had appropriate interventions at a sufficiently early age.

The emotional wellbeing of children is just as important as their physical health. Good mental health allows children and young people to develop the resilience to cope with whatever life throws at them and grow into well-rounded, healthy adults.
